Storing your Will safely using Lawpack’s Will Storage Service is easy to use and convenient.
Lawpack's National Will Storage Service uses a secure facility designed to store your Will safely, so that it can be easily retrieved and despatched to you within two working days, whenever you need it.
Store your Will safely and securely today in just 7 simple steps:
- Call us on 020 7394 4040 or complete our online form on the 'Summary' tab of this page. We’ll then send you our Will Storage application pack which includes:
- One Will storage envelope used for the safe storage of your Will.
- Guidance notes to enable you to easily complete the details required for Will storage.
- Direct debit mandate to be sent to us with your Will for simple payment of your annual service charges.
- Terms and conditions to be retained by you for reference at any time.
- One Will storage envelope used for the safe storage of your Will.
- Complete our direct debit mandate with your bank details plus our Will storage envelope with your personal details.
- Place your Will in your completed Will Storage envelope and securely seal. Write your signature across the seal.
- Place the Will Storage Envelope and the direct debit mandate into an envelope and post it back to us.
- Your Will will then be stored safely and securely.
- On receipt of your Will, a confirmation letter will be sent to you with the following information:
- Your unique ID number, which you must use when you want to retrieve your Will from Will Storage.
- Details of how you can return your Will for revision and how often you should review your Will.
- Your unique ID number, which you must use when you want to retrieve your Will from Will Storage.
- If you requested us to do so, we will inform your first-named executor that your Will has been stored with us, along with the Will’s unique ID number. However, we will never return your Will to your executor unless the request is in writing and accompanied by a death certificate.
- One Will storage envelope used for the safe storage of your Will.
- Guidance notes to enable you to easily complete the details required for Will storage.
- Direct debit mandate to be sent to us with your Will for simple payment of your annual subscription.
- Terms and conditions to be retained by you for reference at any time.
Included in our Will Storage application pack is a Will Retrieval Request form. Return this to us and we will dispatch your Will to you within two working days by first-class post. Included with this delivery will be:
- A new Will form for you to complete, should you wish to revise your Will
- Guidance on completing your new Will
- A Will Storage envelope
You will need to retrieve your old Will and write a new Will.
Ask for your Will to be retrieved using our Will Retrieval Request form and your Will will be sent to you within two working days, along with a new Will form and guidance notes on writing your new Will. Once you have completed your new Will, you need to make sure that the Will is correctly witnessed and dated and make a copy. Destroy your old Will and return your new revised Will to us in your new Will Storage envelope.
As your name is one of the references we use to identify your stored Will, you need to let us know if you change your name. You can advise us of any changes to your name and address using the response card included in the Will Storage application pack.
If your name changes on marriage or remarriage, any previous Will is revoked and you should write a new Will.
If you ask us to do so, we will inform your first-named executor that your Will has been stored with us, along with the Will’s unique ID number.
We will send your executor a letter informing them that:
- They have been appointed as the first-named executor in your Will.
- It’s their responsibility, together with any other executors you have appointed in your Will, to apply for probate on your death and administer the estate.
- If you should pass away, the executor will need to retrieve your Will from Lawpack by completing the Will Retrieval Request form (sent to them along with the letter) and post it to us, along with a certified copy of the death certificate.
Note that we will never return your Will to your executor unless the request is in writing and accompanied by a death certificate.
Your Will must be stored in a safe place, but you can do this at home, with a bank or solicitor, or with Lawpack's safe and secure Will Storage Service.
You can store your Will at home but you should consider the following points.
- A Will is an important document. It records your wishes. But a Will is only a piece of paper that can be easily lost, as sometimes happens when people move house, for example.
- There is also the added question of security: do you want other members of your family to have access to your Will?
It’s possible to store your Will with a solicitor, but their Will storage charge can be high and it might be inconvenient if you move away from the area where you currently live. Your bank is another possibility for Will storage, but again there could be quite a hefty cost involved.
