Kids go in search of early inheritance

by Daniel Jones

People throughout the UK are ignoring what their parents have written in their will to request their inheritance early, research has revealed.

Figures from Skipton Financial Services show that one in five adults have already received their inheritance to help them through periods of financial difficulty.

One in ten of those polled had received £100,000 or more, while 16 per cent of those under the age of 35 have had close to £50,000.

More than half of under-35s revealed that they would like to receive their inheritance by the time they are 40 years old.

Andrew Barker, managing director of Skipton Financial Services, commented: "It is particularly scary that, whilst almost two thirds of youngsters are expecting to receive an inheritance, for the vast majority of these it is purely an assumption."

He emphasised that in many cases, parents will not have the amount of cash to leave that their offspring are expecting.
