Choose an executor carefully

by Daniel Jones

Writing a will is something that many people put off, but choosing someone to have executor duties can also be a difficult task.

It is a job that requires a high level of responsibility, so people are urged to take their time over making a decision to ensure it is the right one.

For those with children, this is a particularly tough decision to make, as their best interests will need to be kept in mind by those given executor duties. Trust is therefore an essential part of any choice.

Helen Hill, general manager at the Society of Will Writers Trust Corporation, recently highlighted how important it is for the wishes laid out in a will to be carried out properly.

She emphasised that many people do not appreciate how much work needs to be done after someone has died, especially in relation to inheritance tax and probate.
