UK's 'biggest ever divorce settlement' reached
A couple have made it into the record books after reaching the biggest divorce settlement
in British history.
Russian oligarch Boris Berezovsky and his ex-wife Galina Besharova had their marriage annulled in London in a deal believed to be worth around £100 million.
Neither party has commented on how much the settlement was actually worth.
The couple had not drawn up a prenuptial agreement
prior to their marriage and are said to have amicably come to a settlement.
Ms Besharova was married to the businessman for 18 years and it is believed that Mr Berezovsky had built up his fortune of more than £1 billion after they separated.
The High Court Family Division judge, Sir Paul Coleridge, recently criticised the divorce system in the UK, saying it was easier to end a marriage then obtain a drivers' licence.
He called for tighter rules to be put in place to reduce the number of people pursuing divorce.
