Cheryl and Ashley officially divorced

Singer Cheryl Cole's four-year marriage to footballer Ashley officially came to an end at the High Court in London today (September 3rd).

Judge Christopher Simmonds granted the couple a decree nisi in a hearing that lasted just one minute and 20 seconds.

The Girls Aloud star filed for divorce on the grounds of unreasonable behaviour following media reports that the England defender had been unfaithful.

Neither Cheryl nor Ashley attended the hearing, which saw their £20 million fortune divided equally.

According to Sky News, Cheryl will get custody of the couple's two dogs.

Last month, it was reported that the Fight for This Love singer would not be changing her surname back to Tweedy by deed poll following the divorce.

A friend told the Sun newspaper: "She's established in Europe. Going back to her maiden name Tweedy would be confusing.

"It also shows she is bigger than Ashley and prepared to be grown up about a difficult time in her life."
