Court battle for Michael Douglas and ex-wife

Lawyers for Michael Douglas are fighting against legal representatives for his ex-wife over his earnings from his new film.

The actor and Diandra Douglas divorced in 2000 after 23 years of marriage.

At the time, the divorce settlement for Mrs Douglas included providing her with a share of the money he earned from films made while they were together.

She is now demanding a portion of his income from his forthcoming movie, Wall Street, as he reprises the role of Gordon Gecko, whom he first played in 1987.

Marilyn Chinitz, a lawyer for actor, told a New York court: "It's enough. It's time for Ms Douglas to move on and let Mr Douglas move on and enjoy his life without having to concern himself with someone trying to claw back moneys that they're not entitled to."

But Mrs Douglas's representative hit back saying: "Mr Douglas is seeking to shirk his financial responsibility that was entered into when he signed this contract."

The case continues.
