Hopper files for divorce on deathbed

Actor Dennis Hopper had filed for divorce just months before he died from terminal cancer.

Hopper died on Saturday (May 29th) aged 74, after suffering from prostate cancer.

However, in January the Rebel Without a Cause star filed for divorce from his fifth wife Victoria Duffy to prevent her from inheriting his estate.

The couple had been married for 14 years and she had been entitled to 25 per cent of his estate and $250,000 (£173,000) life insurance money as per a prenuptial agreement, so long as Ms Duffy was living with Hopper.

His estranged wife argues that she lived with Hopper as her house is on his estate in Venice, California.

But before the divorce could be finalised, Hopper died and now the case could turn into disputes over his will.

His last public appearance came in March this year when he was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

He spent years battling drink and drug addiction and earned a reputation for being difficult to work with.
