Divorce 'should be given serious consideration'
Getting divorced is not a decision that should be taken lightly, one legal expert has insisted.
Mark McCown, author of It's the Law, said marriage separation should be given serious consideration, especially when children are involved.
Responding to a reader query about grounds for divorce in the Ironton Tribune
, he said the decision to divorce should be made with as much thought as the choice to get married in the first place.
Where one partner has been unfaithful, or in cases involving unreasonable behaviour, divorce may be the most suitable option.
However, if couples have simply drifted apart, there may be other solutions and Mr McCown recommended seeing a marriage counsellor to talk through any problems first.
However, if after counselling couples still wish to go ahead with a separation and are both in agreement on important issues such as child custody, they could save legal fees by opting for a DIY divorce
