Berlusconi refuses 3.5m euro divorce demands
Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi has reached a divorce settlement
from his wife of 20 years after hours in a Milan court over the weekend.
His actress wife Veronica Lario had demanded 3.5 million euro (£3 million) a month in maintenance, but the tycoon had made a counter offer of 300,000 euro per month.
However Ms Lario will receive the couple's luxury villa, worth an estimated 78 million euro, situated in Milan.
The couple, who has 20 years between them in age, has three children.
Ms Lario and the prime minister have been estranged for the past year.
She filed for divorce on the grounds that Mr Berlusconi, who is Italy's second-richest man, had had extramarital affairs.
News reports had discovered that the prime minister had invited women back to his residence on a number of occasions and had attended the 18th birthday party of an underwear model.
An escort who claimed to have slept with Mr Berlusconi also sold her story to the newspapers.
