Divorce cost sees counselling boom
The cost of using divorce lawyers and other expense involved in legal separation has led to more couples seeking to repair their marriages, it has been found.
Figures from relationship counselling service Relate have revealed that 66 per cent of its centres in the UK have seen an increase in demand for their services during the recession.
In addition to this, the Local Government Association has also noted a rise in the numbers seeking such help through local authorities, with London and the south-east seeing the highest increases.The Times
has suggested that this may reflect the high cost of divorce as reconciliation is sought as a less expensive alternative.
Those who are unable to save their marriage may wish to consider the option of a DIY divorce
to save money.
According to Office for National Statistics figures, there were 11.9 people per 1,000 divorcing in 2007, compared with 12.2 in 2006.
