Girl a 'divorcee' at 14
A 14-year-old-girl from Israel has reportedly become the country's youngest-ever divorcee.
The Israeli press claim that she exchanged marriage vows with her 17-year-old husband, swapped rings and consummated the union and, although it is illegal for those under 17 to wed, the marriage is valid if these three things take place.
Rabbi Eliyahu Ben-Dahan, director of the Rabbinic Court Administration, told the Jerusalem Post that the incident should act as a warning to other teenagers that marriage is a "serious commitment that should not be taken lightly".
"We want young people to learn from this case […] Getting married like this can ruin a young person's life," the spokesperson added.
