DIY divorces are 'cheaper and more straightforward'

It has been claimed that DIY divorces are the way to go for people who want to ease the financial burden of separation.

According to the Telegraph, Madonna's divorce from husband Guy Ritchie could see a settlement of £100 million reached.

Citing Norwich Union, it claims that the typical marriage break-up costs £28,000 but one of the ways to make things financially easier and less stressful, particularly for amicable splits, is save legal fees by "downloading your divorce from the internet".

A DIY divorce could save around £1,000 in legal bills, the newspaper claims.

Speaking to the publication, Jeremy Levison, partner at divorce law specialists Levison Meltzer Pigott, says that keeping things amicable will keep the costs down.

"When a legal practice is involved, more fees are racked up every hour that passes and it becomes more and more expensive," he adds.
