Divorce most likely in first two years of marriage
One in ten of all divorces occur within the first two years of marriage, an online survey has shown.
The study by website Divorce Online
shows that ten per cent of all divorces end in the second year of marriage, with infidelity the main cause.
Men are the most likely to play away with 80 per cent of infidelity divorces started by women.
The advent of cheaper online divorce sites has also contributed to the rise in divorce rates, with splits using such services doubling in the last six months, researchers found.
Relate counsellor Christine Northam commented: "Younger marriages tend to be less stable. Possibly it was not strong enough to start: one of them wanted a wedding, or there was a pregnancy, peer pressure".
The survey by Divorce Online polled 11,000 separate cases.
The UK's divorce rate is at its lowest level since 1981, with 11.9 divorcing people per 1,000 married population, according to figures for 2007 from the Office for National Statistics.
