Elderly struggle to meet day-to-day costs
Some older people may be at risk of not meeting the terms of their tenancy agreements
, as research shows that many are struggling with their personal finances.
A study of 1,200 people over the age of 60 by Age UK shows that four per cent are really struggling and 47 per cent are just getting by.
One of the main concerns was the cost of food, which has risen by 6.2 per cent over the past year, while energy prices have increased by 4.2 per cent.
Michelle Mitchell, Age UK's charity director, emphasised that some of the most vulnerable people are missing out on the benefits they are entitled to, which could make them fall behind with rental payments.
"At a time when so many people are struggling financially, it is unacceptable that vital benefits are failing to reach some of the poorest and most vulnerable older people," she commented.
