Homeowners need to become energy efficient

Properties all over the UK need to be made more energy efficient, but many people are unaware of how to achieve this, Andrew Leech, director of the National Home Improvement Council has said.

The expert pointed out that there will come a time when all properties will need to meet minimum standards, suggesting that failure to comply may create difficulties when selling your own house.

"It is all very well improving your bathroom and your kitchen but there are certain energy efficiency things that you can do in achieving those objectives which will save money," he commented.

Mr Leech stressed that homeowners will have to find the cash to complete these projects from somewhere, but they are unlikely to do so unless the benefits are spelt out to them.

Figures from the Council of Mortgage Lenders show there was a slight rise in lending in April, as 40,900 loans were granted throughout the month.
