Buy-to-let advice offered by Arla

As renting becomes increasingly popular, one major organisation has offered buy to let advice to potential landlords hoping to capitalise on the trend.

The Association of Residential Lettings Agents (Arla) recommended that the local area should be thoroughly researched, which will enable would-be landlords to determine whether or not they are likely to get a return on their investment.

Furthermore, it emphasised the need to have the right mortgage and finance options in place, while also preparing documentation to make the shift to the private-rented sector as stress-free as possible.

"Buy to let properties can prove to be a sensible, long-term investment, but consumers must do their research first in order to achieve success," highlighted Arla's operations manager Ian Potter.

Data from the March Rightmove House Price Index shows that property asking prices have increased by 0.8 per cent this month compared to February, marking a year-on-year increase of five per cent.
