Third of adults 'expect to move this year'

by Shirley Borrett

DIY house selling may become easier for some people, as just under a third of adults in the UK (30 per cent) reveal their intention to relocate in the next 12 months.

Although this is down from the last time Legal & General carried out its Moving Intentions Survey, the company believes there is still chance for the situation to improve.

"The survey also showed that people with properties valued at over £500k were the most likely to move, and in fact there is a strong correlation between property value and wish to move," commented Stephen Smith, director of housing and external affairs at Legal & General Network.

He pointed out that this situation is not surprising as there is so much choice currently available in the mortgage market, especially for established homeowners.

This follows research from Lloyds TSB, which explained that properties in spa towns typically sell for around 16 per cent higher than the county average.
