Big cities becoming more affordable
DIY house selling
could become more prominent in some of the UK's largest cities as it emerges that properties are more affordable than in previous years.
Compiled by Halifax, the data shows that costs have fallen between 2007 and 2010, with a semi-detached property now purchasable in five out of the ten largest cities for £150,000.
Back in 2007, this figure stood at just one, showing that there are more options available to anyone thinking of buying houses in the UK.
Martin Ellis, housing economist at Halifax, commented: "The higher performance of the housing market in southern England over the last three years reflects the stronger economic performance of this part of the country compared with the rest of the UK."
The Communities and Local Government's English Housing Report recently showed that the private rented sector is doing particularly well at the moment as people seek to rent rather than buy.
