Property market starting to pick up

Demand for DIY house selling kits may be on the rise as new figures reveal that the property market is showing some signs of improvement.

According to the National Association of Estate Agents (NAEA), both supply and demand for housing increased in January when compared to the previous month.

It is believed that this rise may be in part down to the bad weather experienced at the end of last year, meaning transaction levels are likely to have been lower than usual.

Michael Jones, president of the NAEA, commented: "What we need to see now is the FSA [Financial Services Authority] using its newly-gained powers of oversight to ease mortgage lending restrictions."

Clydesdale & Yorkshire Banks recently revealed that 30 per cent of people in the UK are looking to move house at some point over the coming year, which is more than three times as high as at the peak of the recession.
