Buying now a wise move, says Arla

by Christopher Evans

Right now is a favourable time for those who can afford it to invest in buy to let property, it has been suggested.

The Association of Residential Lettings Agents (Arla) said the current situation offers a number of opportunities in some locations, with the key being to find out how many people are looking to invest in the area.

Operations manager Ian Potter said this can be a wise move for investors "provided they are not going to be overstretching themselves on their borrowing and that they have done sufficient market research in the area".

Mr Potter's comments come after Arla's first quarterly members' survey of 2009 revealed that more investors are buying property than selling for the first time in two years.

Earlier this week, Young Group's survey of the buy-to-let market also detected increased buyer intentions, with more investors keen to buy in the first quarter of 2009 than in the final three months of last year.
