Room for going it alone, suggests expert

A property expert has suggested that there is plenty of scope for those buying and selling homes to cut out the middleman.

In a blog for Write About Property, Liam Bailey noted that there has been an increase in FSBO (for sale by owner alone) transactions, along with a rise in websites encouraging this practice.

Mr Bailey also observed that there are some sites recommending that those buying and selling property should do away with estate agents altogether.

He remarked that this step would be taking matters too far and would endanger the long-term stability of the market, but agreed that independent selling does have a place in the current market.

House prices have been falling in the UK in recent months, with Nationwide reporting that values dropped by 1.8 per cent last month and 17.6 per cent over the last year.
