It has been claimed that the current economic climate represents an ideal time to purchase a property.
David Amstell, founder of property marketing website Briffy.com, says it does not matter whether you are a first-time buyer, someone looking to downsize or a buyer trying to work their way up the property ladder.
"It's an excellent time to buy, full stop. Big, small or otherwise. If you haven't bought yet then it's a good time to buy," he states.
Mr Amstell says that the only hurdle at the moment is for people who have an existing home to sell but he advises these people to put their property on the market at a "keen price" because realistically-valued homes are still selling.
If you are selling your own home, DIY house selling could help make the process cheaper.
UK house prices fell 15.9 per cent in 2008 and are at their lowest levels since spring 2005, according to Nationwide.
