South Cambridgeshire 'best' for rural life

by Shirley Borrett

For sale boards may be difficult to find in South Cambridgeshire, as the region has been named the best in the UK for the quality of life of its residents.

The Halifax Rural Areas Quality of Life Survey assessed a number of factors, including employment levels, academic performance and regional climate to come to its conclusion.

Results also showed that residents in the south of England generally enjoy a better lifestyle than those in the north, although school exam results are better in northern regions.

Nitesh Patel, housing economist at Halifax, commented: "Even the rain falls less frequently than the national average in South Cambridgeshire, contributing to the general high performance of this area in employment, average earnings, school performance, health and life expectancy."

Findings revealed that the sunniest place in Great Britain is the Isle of Wight, where residents enjoy around 37.4 hours of sunshine per week.
