Robbie Fowler 'to set up landlord academy'
Published by Sarah Ashcroft
Aspiring landlords will soon have a brand new place to learn all about the rules and regulations surrounding the trade, thanks to a new academy being set up by former football star Robbie Fowler.
The ex-Liverpool, Leeds and Manchester City striker has designed a course for property owners who want to learn more about renting their homes out with the aim of making a profit. Fowler is worth an estimated £28 million and owns a portfolio of about 80 houses, most of which are terraced homes located in the north-west of England.
He will pass on his expertise through the new course, which will help would-be landlords on issues such as raising the money to buy a home and how to secure the best deals.
Commenting on his career in the property market, Fowler said: "When I first started I didn't know much about the property world but I had some good advice from the people who did. It was by putting that advice into practice that made my business go from strength to strength. It doesn't matter what state the market's in, there's always money to be made, as long as you get the right education."
While Fowler himself will not attend the courses, he has had a heavy impact on their content and the way they will be presented. Each of the four scheduled sessions are to be held in London, so it is landlords in the south-east who stand to benefit first.
The former England player is the fourth-highest goalscorer in Premier League history, so he is no stranger to success. It seems he is making a similarly positive impact on the property sector since hanging up his boots and is willing to share his top tips.
Landlords should remember there is plenty to learn before committing to renting out a property and failure to follow all the relevant regulations can land people in hot water with the authorities and potentially lead to criminal proceedings.
