Enquiries over rent arrears on the rise

The need for landlords to fill in a section 8 notice
form may soon be greater than ever, as figures show more people are struggling to pay their rent.
Since the credit crunch began in 2007, National Debtline has seen an 84 per cent rise in the number of people calling for help with rent arrears
Joanna Elson, chief executive of the Money Advice Trust, which runs National Debtline, said it is clear that many people are struggling to meet the terms of their tenancy agreements
"A few years ago many people in today's rent market would be planning on buying their first home, but now it seems they are struggling to even pay the rent," she commented.
Ms Elson noted that many individuals are cutting back in other areas in order to keep on top of rental payments, which could potentially lead to other debt problems with credit cards and loans.
