Personal finances expected to worsen

Landlords may find they are issuing more Section 8 Notices, as one charity expects people to continue to struggle with their finances this year.

The Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS) suggested that a rise in interest rates would lead many to enter into rent arrears, with many of them already struggling with their finances.

Last year, the CCCS dealt with 90,000 clients, who had £30,160 of unsecured debt to deal with.

"As far as possible, families need to think how they could pay such increases and seek help at the earliest opportunity if they feel that they cannot cope," commented Delroy Corinaldi, CCCS external affairs director.

Sequence Lettings reported earlier this month that it had seen a 37 per cent rise in the number of people seeking properties to rent over the past year.

Figures for February alone are around eight per cent higher than those recorded in 2010.
