Manufacturing health & safety campaign launched

The manufacturing trade body the EEF has teamed up with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and the Trades Union Congress to launch a new workplace safety campaign providing advice and support to businesses.

A series of events will be organised around the UK during October and November to help firms get to grips with maintenance issues such as selecting contractors, insolating machinery and managing asbestos.

Each seminar will be attended by health and safety experts who will talk to business owners about avoiding accidents and ill health in their workplaces by complying with health and safety regulations.

Steve Pointer, head of health and safety policy at the EEF, said: "The fact that maintenance is not directly part of the manufacturing process means that it is all too easy to forget when thinking about health and safety."

According to figures from the HSE, the number of reported employee injuries in the manufacturing industry has fallen in the last few years.
