17m Brits stressed about finances

More than a third of Brits get worried about their finances every day, new research has found.

Trying to sort out a troubling money situation only adds to the stress for one in seven, who claim to get bored or frustrated within ten minutes of handling their finances.

However, nearly half (49 per cent) admit that they could save money by addressing the situation - but fail to do anything about it, moneysupermarket.com has reported.

Almost one in ten (nine per cent) wouldn't know where to start or to seek advice.

Commenting on the situation, the comparison site's head of banking Kevin Mountford said: "If consumers take time to sit down, get the information they need to sort out their finances, they will find that a complete change in lifestyle is not necessarily required."

Despite the seeming apathy, separate research from another comparison site revealed that 44 per cent do plan to take action on the state of their finances, as part of their New Year's resolutions.

GoCompare's research also revealed that more than half (54 per cent) would break their resolutions by the end of the New Year.
