Red tape 'a big problem causer' among SMEs

One of the main areas that small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are seeking business advice for is the red tape they face on a daily basis, one expert has said.

A spokeswoman for the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) highlighted that a recent study from the group found that 27 per cent of firms believe regulation prevented their expansion.

She explained that although the government has placed a moratorium on small firms for domestic regulations over the next three years, this may not be enough.

"The FSB is disappointed that the government appears to have decided to remove some large regulatory changes from the moratorium – including the extension to paternal leave and pay and the removal of the default retirement age," the expert noted.

It was recently announced by the Home Office that it was specifically looking into how diversity and equality are being promoted in workplaces in line with employment law.
