Bosses benefit from flexible working policy
Employers will experience substantial workplace benefits from facilitating a flexible working policy, one industry analyst has said.
The coalition this week said that it would put forward proposals to extend flexible working hours for all employees in its consultation on shared parenting leave arrangements.
Commenting on the measures, the head of good practice at the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service, Gill Trevelyan, said: "Flexible patterns of work can help to meet customer needs, maximise the available labour and help employees achieve a better work-life balance."
Other bodies have supported the proposals, including the Chartered Institute for Personnel and Development.
A survey by Orange in December found that nearly three-quarters (74 per cent) of small to medium-sized businesses plan to introduce flexible working options in 2011.
The main reasons cited by employers was efficiency, with more than half (52 per cent) planning to spend more money on information technology to enhance flexibility over the coming year.
