Hiring staff should be tailored to circumstances

Businesses have been advised not to make the mistake of using the same motivational strategies for all of their staff.

Phil Flaxton, chief executive of Work Wise UK, said that there are varying levels of motivation and different motivating factors for different individuals.

"Clearly there are people that are very self-motivated and probably don't require a great deal of managing because they are motivated, they understand their job and the role they are employed to do, so they get on and do it," he explained.

"But of course, there are others that are less motivated or needed to be managed on a more hands-on basis."

As such, Mr Flaxton noted it is important that companies do not use the same employee engagement tactics across the board.

Earlier this month, a report from the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development revealed that staff engagement is the number one priority for private sector HR workers over the course of the next year.
