Employers will need to get used to some new rules under plans unveiled by the government aimed at tackling discrimination.
Minister for women and equality Harriet Harman said the bill should help end bias against women, the disabled and those from ethnic minorities.
Positive discrimination will be permitted under the regulations, with Ms Harman stating: "We will let employers have the right to choose to diversify their team - with positive action."
Among the responses to the news of the bill has been a call from the Terence Higgins Trust on behalf of it and other charities to add provisions to abolish discrimination against the recruitment of those with mental illnesses or HIV.
