Information website Shelter Offshore states that anyone who acquires assets in Italy may find that laws and rules of succession differ from those in the UK.
And with more than 30,000 expatriates living in the country, the portal is urging people to ensure their will supports any they may have in Britain.
According to Shelter Offshore, Italian law means that property acquired there will not necessarily be distributed to the next of kin - so making a will is all the more important.
"Don't leave it to chance because if you die intestate your estate could be distributed completely contrary to your intentions," it notes.
Director of HFM Columbus Gary Festa recently observed that a lack of information about making wills had led to people making costly errors, such is including parties that have already died in outdated wills.
